5 Year Mission
5 Year Mission
A vertical-scrolling space shooter for the Game Boy Color, built in GB Studio and playable on real hardware.
Take the Enterprise out on a five-year mission: ten levels a year, a new hostile fleet each year, and a planet at the end of every one. Score is the only thing that advances you — nothing else does.
- Five faction rosters, each flying differently. Klingons dive straight. Romulans cloak mid-descent and reappear somewhere else. Ferengi weave. Cardassians strafe until they hit an edge. The Borg simply do not deviate.
- Two weapons. Phasers on A, photon torpedoes on B — one hit, one kill, slow to reload.
- Shields, lives, pickups, and a ten-slot high score table saved to cartridge.
This is a playtest build
It has been played through to 5-10 on real hardware, but the last round of changes hasn't been. What I'd most like to know:
1. Where did you stop, and why? Died, got bored, or ran out of evening.
2. Did any level drag? Progression is score-driven, and the values changed
recently — levels may now clear faster or slower than intended.
3. Anything you couldn't dodge or couldn't reach? Especially in years 4–5.
4. The Romulan cloak — does it read as a fair trick or a cheap one?
Runs on any accurate Game Boy Color emulator, on a flash cart, and under GameYob (TWiLight Menu++). Colour only — it will not run on an original DMG.
